On Saturday 9th April, The Earth Repair Shop hosted our second Fete of the Planet at the Lantern Centre, Ilfracombe. We were joined by a number of local green organisations and businesses, who displayed all the ways in which each and every one of us can get involved and make changes for a cleaner, greener planet.

The one-day sustainability event promoted how easy it can be to make small changes to our every day lives that can have a great impact, in a positive way, on our planet in light of the current climate crisis. With talks, seed and plant swaps, pledges and Easter egg hunts, the event was deemed a great success as we were thrilled to see so many families and individuals attend.

It was also the perfect opportunity for us to officially launch our big campaign, Pledge for the Planet, supporting the North Devon Biosphere's current Nature Recovery plan and their Pledge for Nature. Our own campaign, keeping to the community in Ilfracombe where the shop is based, seeks to engage residents and local businesses to adopt six green pledges over the next year to make lifestyle choices that benefit ourselves and the planet.

Attendees of the fete signed up to Pledge for the Planet and received their exciting eco-friendly window sticker, on which to display their six pledge badges as they earn them from April 2022 to April 2023. We were also excited to give visitors a wildflower seed leaflet explaining the pledge, which they could then take home and plant, growing their own British wildflowers and thus taking a step to fulfilling one of this year's six pledges! We were encouraged to see so many residents keen to sign up and do their bit to help build a better, greener community here and to help nature recover in our area.
